From paste to verdict

How the email bounce checker works

Three steps, no signup, no card on file. Paste any address, watch the nine-check engine run the bounce test, read the verdict in two seconds.

001INPUT

Paste the address

Drop any email into the pill — Gmail, Outlook, custom domains, or role aliases like info@ and sales@. Verify one address free right now, or upload a CSV to check a whole list once you sign up.

002ENGINE

Run the 9-check engine

Nine checks fire in parallel: syntax, DNS, and MX records, a live SMTP handshake, catch-all and disposable detection, role and domain-age signals, mailbox state, and email authentication. The full verdict then lands in about two seconds.

003VERIFY

Verdict in 2 seconds

Every address comes back valid, invalid, or risky, with a confidence score, the full per-check breakdown, and a recommended retry policy. Read the result right there on the page, or pull it straight from the API.

Bounce prevention 101

What an email bounce checker does

Not just a syntax check. A live SMTP handshake, read alongside every other check Verifox runs, before your message leaves.

An email bounce back is the receiving server returning your message with a verdict attached: this address could not take delivery. The usual culprits are a mailbox that no longer exists (the contact changed jobs and the account was closed), a domain that is dead or has no mail server behind it, or a transient condition like a full inbox. To check email bounce risk before sending is simply to ask for that verdict early, while the message is still in your draft folder instead of in a failure report.

See it in action

Everything the checker does, on one screen

From one pasted address to a full CSV, every check runs the same nine-layer engine and hands you a verdict you can send on.

Single check

Verify one email in seconds

Paste an address and the checker runs all nine deliverability layers (syntax to live SMTP) and hands back a verdict, a 0-100 confidence score, and the full check-by-check breakdown. You send to a confirmed inbox, never a hopeful guess.

Bulk & CSV

Verify a whole list at once

Upload a CSV or paste a list, and the checker works the entire batch (the same nine-check engine on every single row), then returns a clean file split into valid, risky, and invalid, ready to export.

What teams are saying

Built for the teams that ship outbound

Growth leads, marketers, and engineers running real campaigns on real lists, with a verified email on every byline.

Thomas George, GTM Lead at Stripe

90% lower bill, 0.4% bounces

We were paying ZeroBounce a four-figure monthly bill and still landing 3% bounces on cold campaigns. Switched the pipeline to Verifox, dropped to 0.4% bounces, and cut the bill by more than 90%.
Thomas G.GTM Lead, Stripe
Brittany King, GTM Lead at HubSpot

Catch-all finally has a verdict

Other tools flag 30% of our B2B list as 'risky catch-all' and leave the call to us. Verifox returns a real verdict on those addresses, with a confidence score. We send more, we send safer.
Brittany K.GTM Lead, HubSpot
Dale Micallef, GTM Lead at Slack

Reputation rebuilt in 6 weeks

We had a Gmail spam-folder problem after a bad list import. Verifox cleaned the list and the warmup ran on the same engine. Back in primary inbox in six weeks. One vendor, half the cost.
Dale M.GTM Lead, Slack
Erica Kovalkoski, GTM Lead at Discord

0.7% bounce on 50k

Ran a 50,000-address outbound list through Verifox before our quarterly campaign. Bounces landed at 0.7%, sender reputation didn't move, replies were up 22% over last quarter.
Erica K.GTM Lead, Discord
Greg Lindsay, GTM Lead at OpenAI

MCP in 10 minutes

Their MCP server let me wire email verification directly into our internal Claude agent in about ten minutes. Zero glue code. No other vendor in this space has thought about that workflow.
Greg L.GTM Lead, OpenAI
Rini Vasana, Product Manager at Vercel

10k/min held under 400ms

Tested Verifox at 10,000 verifications per minute on a Tuesday morning. Latency held under 400ms median, no soft failures, no rate-limit walls. The vendor we benched throttled at 2,000/min.
Rini V.Product Manager, Vercel
Jonathan Aharon, GTM Lead at MongoDB

Hygiene that doesn't break pipeline

Our SDRs were enriching from three tools and 14% of the emails were invalid before they hit the sequencer. Verifox sits in the pipeline now and the team stopped seeing 'undeliverable' replies the next week.
Jonathan A.GTM Lead, MongoDB
Emma Fox, GTM Lead at Linear

Bulk that actually ships

Bulk upload, sorted CSV back in twenty minutes, plug into our growth stack. The half-day list-hygiene project per cohort turned into something the marketing intern runs on autopilot.

Scores you can act on

Verifox returns a 0-100 confidence score per address, not just a label. We thresholded at 75 for the cold sequencer, 60 for nurture, and our deliverability team finally has a knob they can tune.

Common questions

Email bounces, answered

The questions we get from teams that land here to check email bounce risk before a send, with the real numbers, real limits, and real opinions behind our verification stack.

Is the email bounce checker actually free?

Yes, and not in the bait-and-switch sense. The pill at the top of this page bounce-tests 4 addresses a day with no account at all, which is enough to sanity-check the handful of contacts you are nervous about before a campaign goes out.

When you need to screen a whole send list, a free signup adds 1,000 bounce checks immediately, or 2,500 if you register with a work address. No card either way. Past that, credits are pay-as-you-go, they never expire, and volume pricing is localized to your region.

Why do emails bounce back?

Three families of cause cover almost every bounce-back. The mailbox is gone (the person left the company, the account was deleted), the domain is gone (company folded, domain expired, MX records removed), or the message was refused in the moment (full inbox, greylisting, a server hiccup). The first two produce hard bounces; the third produces soft ones.

B2B lists rot fast because people change jobs, which is why a list that was clean a year ago can bounce at 5 percent or worse today. Running a bounce test before each send catches the decay. If your bounces come with spam-block wording rather than unknown-user codes, the problem may be your own domain reputation instead: run an email blacklist check to rule that out.

How does a bounce checker predict a bounce before I send?

A bounce is just the receiving mail server telling you, after the fact, that an address is dead. The bounce checker runs the exact handshake the inbox would, without delivering anything, so you get that same verdict before the send instead of as a failure report after. Nine checks run in parallel on every address: syntax and format validation (RFC 5321 / 5322), domain existence and MX-record presence, the SMTP handshake and mailbox-exists ping, disposable-domain match, role-address detection, catch-all domain detection, an AI-confidence pass on catch-all addresses, domain-age scoring, and email authentication signals (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).

The catch-all resolution is the one most free bounce checkers skip, and it’s where 20 to 40 % of B2B email lists quietly bounce. If you just want to check one email at a time, the checker runs the very same engine.

What's the difference between a hard bounce and a soft bounce?

A hard bounce is permanent: the address does not exist, the domain is dead, or the mailbox is closed. A soft bounce is temporary: the inbox is full, the server is down for a moment, or the message is too large.

Hard bounces are the ones that wreck your sender reputation, and they are exactly what this bounce test is built to catch ahead of time. The engine flags dead addresses as invalid so you can suppress them before the send. You can wire the same check into your stack with the API to screen every address at signup or import.

How much will this reduce my bounce rate?

Most teams running a list through Verifox for the first time cut hard bounces from the 5 to 15 % range down to under 1 %. Mailbox providers start throttling and spam-foldering once you cross roughly 2 %, so getting under that line is what protects inbox placement for every send after.

Lower bounce rate means a healthier sender reputation, which means more of your good email actually lands. The accuracy here matches the paid verification engine, so the free tier reduces bounces just as hard as the paid one.

How accurate is the bounce prediction?

Same engine as the paid plans. 99.99 % accuracy on a 1,000-address benchmark list, including catch-all domains.

The free tier doesn’t trade accuracy for the price tag. It caps volume only. Every check the paid Email Verification API runs to flag a bounce risk is the same check the bounce checker on this page runs.

Can I bounce-test a whole list in bulk for free?

Yes. The free tier gives you 1,000 checks (2,500 if you sign up with a work email), so you can clean most small lists for bounces outright before a send.

For larger lists, our paid credit packs are pay-as-you-go and never expire, with pricing localized to your region on the pricing page. CSV upload, API access, and bulk parallel processing are included from the free tier up. If you prefer the validator phrasing, the free email validator runs the identical engine on bulk lists.

Do you store the lists or addresses I bounce-test?

No. A send list is the most sensitive asset a marketing team uploads anywhere, so we treat it accordingly: every address, single check or CSV upload, is processed in memory and discarded the instant its bounce verdict comes back. We never log it, never warehouse it, and never sell it. Your pre-send list does not become anyone else’s training data or lead source.

The whole pipeline is SOC 2 Type II audited, and the privacy policy spells out exactly what we touch during a check and what we refuse to keep.

I hit the 4-a-day limit mid-list. Now what?

That limit exists because pasting a campaign list four addresses at a time is the wrong tool for the job. If you are cleaning a real send list, sign up free: the account unlocks CSV upload plus 1,000 checks on the spot (2,500 with a work email), still with no card on file. That covers most newsletter and outbound lists in one pass.

Otherwise the anonymous limit resets in 24 hours. Teams bounce-testing 10,000+ addresses before every campaign usually buy a credit pack once and draw it down, since credits never expire.

Can my app or AI agent bounce-check addresses in real time, and how fast is it?

Yes, and real time is the whole point: screening an address the moment it enters your funnel keeps the bounce out of your list instead of cleaning it up later. The REST API returns a verdict in roughly 380 ms median (sub-50 ms cached), fast enough to gate a signup form inline, while bulk jobs stream about 10,000 emails per minute on the standard tier. HubSpot, Salesforce, Zapier, Klaviyo, Mailchimp, and Brevo connect without code.

Uptime is contractual: 99.9 % SLA on Starter and 99.99 % on an annual Volume contract, with live incident history at status.verifox.ai. AI agents skip the glue code entirely via the native MCP server.
